Takasawa Candles' Japanese Candles

Rapeseed candles made from rapeseed oil.

The wax does not run off easily when lit, and the odor is reduced after it is extinguished.
These candles are kind to both the environment and our bodies.
It comes in a pack of 16, making it convenient for trying out.

Main ingredient: rapeseed wax Burning time: about 30 minutes

[Characteristics of Japanese candles]

The characteristics of Japanese candles lie in their wicks and raw materials.
The wick is hand-wound around a tube of Japanese paper, and then a thin layer of cotton is wrapped around that to keep it from unraveling.
The wick is hollow all the way to the tip, so while it is burning it is constantly supplied with wax and oxygen drawn up from the wick, creating a bright, strong flame that is resistant to wind.

*A wick is the sponge-like part inside the rush grass after the outer skin has been removed.

Japanese candles, which use vegetable wax, produce less soot than Western candles and do not damage Buddhist altars.
The wicks of Japanese candles are made by wrapping Japanese paper around a stick and carefully wrapping a wick made from rush grass around it one by one.
By wrapping it around a stick, a hollow space is created all the way to the top of the wick, and when lit, air is drawn in through the hole and the fire is sucked in, creating a large, flickering flame that is difficult to extinguish.

[What we value]

What we value is preserving the traditional and natural scenery of our hometown, Noto, and other regions with which we have a connection through Japanese candle making.
If we look into the historical background of Nanao's Japanese candles, we find that they are connected to various parts of Japan through maritime transport.
Japanese candles are made using raw materials derived from plants.
We receive the bounty of the local Satoyama, such as plant wax, Japanese paper, and wick grass, and turn them into products.
We exist by coexisting with traditional production areas all over Japan, and we believe that by continuing to make Japanese candles we can preserve the natural environment of the regions we are connected to.

[Lighting a Japanese candle]

The light of a Japanese candle has a powerful, flickering flame.
We believe that lighting a Japanese candle has the role of connecting the mind and body.
It is time to join hands in front of the Buddhist altar and think of loved ones, and to light Japanese candles to make mealtime more enjoyable.
I hope you will light a fire again to create that time.
I believe that spending time with the flames will calm your mind and relax your body and mind.
