TOKIWAGI is a product brand that connects people's daily lives with crafts that have been nurtured in the local region and passed down from hand to hand. We will continue to weave the richness of ancient lifestyles into the future by carefully crafting beautiful items and using them with love and care.
Karatsu, our starting point, is home to the beautiful “Niji-no-Matsubara (Rainbow Pine Forest)," one of the three most beautiful pine forests in Japan. “TOKIWAGI" is named after Tokiwagi (evergreen tree), a tree that maintains its unchanging form through constant change. We hope to continue to exist "like a pine tree."
Creative Director and Designer
Yumi Terauchi
Born in 1967, from Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture.
After working for an interior design office and an interior design store, she went independent in 1998 and established Terauchi Design Office Co. She is engaged in design direction work and activities in the world of contemporary art. She specializes in consistent and multifaceted creative work that establishes identity. She values nature, scenery and the Japanese sense of beauty; her products capture the essence of these elements. She has received numerous awards, including the Good Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award. In 2022, she published an art book, "There I sense something," which won the 25th Japan Self-Publishing Culture Award Grand Prize. She opened "TOKIWAGI," a gallery in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, to showcase the appeal of new crafts.
